The Mortal Kombat games count amazingly absurd Finishers as a series trademark. And the Babality Finisher is just completely ridiculous.
And I love it.
For those unfamiliar with MK Finishers, per the Mortal Kombat Wiki, a Babality is a Finisher that allows players to turn their opponents into an infant version of the character.
Babalities were first introduced in Mortal Kombat II and featured in the Mortal Kombat 3 versions before being absent from the next several games. However, this Finisher made a return in Mortal Kombat (2011) (but would subsequently be excluded from Mortal Kombat X). In MK (2011), every character, including bosses, has a baby model.
Unlike in Mortal Kombat 2 and 3, where the defeated opponent would only sit and cry upon turning into a baby, each character in MK (2011) has a different animation once they are turned into a baby. This usually involves a humiliating or Friendship-like action with a signature trait of that character’s to drive the point home.
As demonstrated here by Baraka, the MK characters make for some ugly babies. All the human characters look like Cabbage Patch Kids if Cabbage Patch dolls were extremely frightening. And wow do these kids have some bad attitudes. Most of the Babalities end with the characters crying and that is a super annoying sound effect.
With that said, I love the Babality Finishers because they’re all so absolutely stupid and fun. Raiden gets frightened by his own thunder? Okay. Noob Saibot accidentely traps himself in a never-ending portal? Sure. Kitana almost gets cut in half by her own fans? Great. This stuff is so ridiculous that it’s actually glorious.

These are all amazing! They might be incredibly silly, but amazing nonetheless! I haven’t played MKX as yet, but it’s a shame they removed it

I know, I love all the ridiculous MK Finishers! These, Animalities, Friendships. MKX is so much fun and has some ridiculous Fatalities (Cassie’s selfie Finisher, for example) but I wish these or one of the other goofy Finishers had been included too

Yeah, the goofy finishing moves are honestly a staple of the franchise at this point. I’d love for Ed Boon and co to patch them in down the line, and if not, to bring them back for MK11! 😀
